COVID-19 Update

Hello, since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the leadership of DSAT has been closely monitoring the situation and remain in continuous conversation about how it impacts our organization, and what our appropriate responses and future steps are. We remain committed to doing our part in keeping all of our constituents safe by making sound and responsible decisions about events, programming and other social gatherings our organization may sponsor or host. The Board of Directors and Buddy Walk planning committee has continued to meet, virtually of course, during this time and will continue to for as long as virtual meetings make the most sense for us to maintain safe business practices.

If you’ve been following us closely, you have noticed we have tried to be as resourceful and helpful to our families during this time as we could be by way of disseminating helpful educational information on our Facebook page, continuing to connect families via social media, offering virtual yoga sessions, communicating other virtual opportunities while you and your loved ones have been socially isolating, among other things. While we are discussing when and how to reestablish events, at this time and until Phase 3 of the Governor’s reopening plan is well underway and proving effective, we will keep programming and events suspended. We ask that you continue to refrain from hosting any DSAT sponsored or DSAT hosted events until we communicate that we are ready to begin holding events.

We know many of you are wondering about the annual Fishing Day, which we typically hold in the month of June at the Bass Pro Shop in Broken Arrow. We have been in continuous contact with Bass Pro and at this time and until further notice, they will not be permitting this event, and other similar events, to take place on their property. We, like many of you, very much still wish to have this event and we will continue to discuss when and how we might still be able to do this in a socially responsible way, and keep you posted.

We have some very preliminary information regarding our annual Buddy Walk that we would like to share with you. Although we cannot yet communicate a final strategy for a “COVID-cautious Buddy Walk”, we do know that our Buddy Walk will look and feel VERY different this year, from years past. We are partnering with the National Down Syndrome Society and considering best practices from Down Syndrome Associations from other states in order to determine when and how we can host a ‘Buddy Walk’ and continue fulfilling our mission to educate and empower others by fostering positive attitudes and inclusion as we celebrate the extraordinary lives of our loves ones with Down Syndrome.

Please stay tuned for more information and developments as we have them available to you, and thank you for continuing to be a valued part of our special organization.

We hope you and your family are well.
